I like my tea tepid.
I hope my dog loves me for more than my capacity to feed him twice a day.
I hate lima beans. Continue reading “This Is Me”

A few years ago, I asked for an odd birthday present. Not new underwear, a gift certificate, or even a best-selling book. No, I asked for a small plastic cylinder. See, I wanted to know my history, my individual human history, and so I spit into this small test tube and sent it off into the U.S. Postal system. A few weeks later, I got my results. Terrorist attack. Suspect shot by police. Four dead. Innocent lives. Lone assailant. Chaos, panic, fear.
Maybe it’s because I’m an American, maybe it’s because I reached adulthood in the shadow of 9/11, or maybe it’s because I deployed to Afghanistan twice, but I feel I have become numb to news like this. Continue reading “The Numbing Syndrome”
It’s funny how those two things are related, rejection and motivation. It’s not necessarily that one begets the other, but they are definitely linked. Circle of life, and all that.
I was recently in Washington, D.C. as a mentor for over one hundred of the brightest and most inspiring high school juniors and seniors America has to offer. They were motivating. They showed me that the future of the United States Continue reading “Rejection & Motivation”
How’s this for a Throwback Thursday?
Today is not the anniversary of the attacks of September 11th, 2001. Perhaps that makes finding my journal as a high school senior even more chilling when I read my 9.12.01 entry: Continue reading “A Seventeen-Year-Old’s Thoughts On 9/11”
My delay in blogging can be blamed on last week’s vacation to Spain, where it was good right up until it became food-poisoned. But that’s a story for a different day.
The day before last, I felt fifteen again. I took a driving lesson in the heart of Southwest England – cider country – and screwed up in a million little ways. After nearly 18 years of driving on my own, you’d think I’d have it down by now. But no. It’s surprising how humbling it is to revisit the rules, even if they’re damned Redcoat rules. Continue reading “Humble Pie”
Or, how I’m a terrible nerd.
I consider myself a private person. Well, sometimes. I can chameleon myself into different versions of me wearing funny headgear. I completed a few of those personality questionnaires and it frustrates me because I see the answers coming a mile away. Oh! You want me to pick the extroverted answer so I can look like a party animal? Ohhhkay. Continue reading “The Accidental Blogger”
Oh, and happy birthday to me. I’m now the same age Jesus was when he did all that great stuff for humanity. But I’m not about to sign up for a cross just yet. Continue reading “I Should Be A Psychopath By Now…”
